Ethmar For Islamic Finance

Building on the King Hussein Foundation’s long successful microfinance experience through Tamweelcom - the Jordan Micro Credit Company, Ethmar for Islamic Finance was established by the King Hussein Foundation (KHF) in 2015.

Ethmar is an Islamic microfinance company that provides innovative Shari’a-compliant financial solutions to empower individuals economically and socially.

Ethmar’s business model has been designed to meet the increasing demand for Sharia compliant financial services in Jordan and beyond.

Despite the presence of Islamic banks and consumer lending companies that offer Islamic financing products, Ethmar has been the first Islamic microfinance company in Jordan fully dedicated to offering Shari’a-compliant financing that can satisfy the unmet needs of potential micro, small and medium enterprises, as well as low-income individuals.

Ethmar is licensed by the Central Bank of Jordan, and registered at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, as a private shareholding company. The company’s main objectives are to broaden financial inclusion in Jordan, support entrepreneurship and contribute to poverty alleviation, thus preventing extremism.

In the past two years of operation, and through innovative financing products, the utilization of technology and a network of 555 vendors, 85% of Ethmar’s clients are first time recipients of financial services - an indicative percentage of realizing the shareowners strategy of mainstreaming reluctant potential and existing entrepreneurs into the economic cycle.
